Vintage Holiday Ornament Balloon
A dramatic holiday window display featuring a sculptural arrangement of handcrafted ornaments, each transformed from simple styrofoam balls into richly detailed “vintage” pieces. The installation creates the illusion of a floating balloon bouquet, blending nostalgia with modern color and shine.
Ornament Workshop
Concept & Design
I refined the composition to create a sense of lift and balance, positioning each ornament to conceal the internal support structure and emphasize depth and light reflection.
Material Selection
Each styrofoam ball was individually plastered, sanded smooth, hand-carved, gold-leafed, and painted with varying iridescent finishes. The ornament tops were custom built from metallic foil and metal rings to complete the vintage look.
Final Installation
I fabricated and installed the entire display by hand, securing and layering each ornament to hide wires and hanging elements while maintaining the illusion of effortless suspension. I also designed and built the coordinating gift boxes and loose ornaments for the base of the scene and throughout the store.
